For over 60 years the Clevedon Music Club has been staging concerts at Clevedon Community Centre on Tuesday evenings between September and April. They engage some of the country's top classical professional performers on a wide range of instruments.
The 2020 Corona virus pandemic brought live performances more or less to a standstill throughout the UK until the late summer when government guidance offered ways of getting music back into the air at indoor venues. By early September the CCA was able to declare the building Covid-secure and the Music Club was able to make provisional plans to offer small scale performances to socially distanced, sanitised-handed, non-mingling, masked audiences, all subject to the evolving measures to limit the spread of this terrible virus.
It has proved a complicated undertaking, requiring members of the audience to pre-book their places and read a sheet of information about how each of our events is to be organised, including our retaining a list of phone numbers of all who attend in case this is required by the government Contact Tracing department, but we feel confident that our concert management satisfies all the rules in place to keep our performers and audience as safe as possible
Events are susceptible to cancellation at short notice if lockdown measures are re-introduced so we are unable to offer a bargain subscription this season and instead ask everyone to pay £10 at the door, by cash or cheque payable to Clevedon Music Club. Because audience numbers have to be greatly reduced to enable social-distancing, this season’s concerts will require drawing on the Club’s very modest reserves but we have decided that live music is more important than our bank balance. Please consider making an extra donation to help reduce our deficit.
Covid measures permitting, our Autumn programme will be:
15 September 2020 Piano duets, on two instruments, performer by Nigel Nash and Kate Woodman
20 October 2020 (at St Peter’s Church, Alexandra Road BS21 7QE) Songs on the theme of Love by Purcell, Quilter, Novello et al. performed by soprano Charlotte Newstead with accompanist Stefan Hofkes
17 November 2020 Piano recital by Béla Hartmann with music by Bach, Beethoven, Liszt et al; postponed in March at the start of lockdown.
8 December 2020 Songs performed by baritone Marcus Evans. Details t.b.a.
Jan – April 2021 t.b.a. but we have exciting plans in the pipe line!
Unless otherwise stated, events take place at 7.30 pm in the Teignmouth Room.
Pre-booking is essential by phoning Andrea on 01275 875262 or Judith on 879099.
