For over 25 years, the Clevedon Music Club has been staging top class Tuesday evening concerts of wide-ranging classical music performed by professionals in the elegant Teignmouth Room of the Clevedon Community Centre. Chaired by Judith James, the Club is proud of its unique contribution to the area's cultural life and tries to minimise its subscriptions and admission charges. Guest performers are charmed by the warmth of the welcome that they receive in Clevedon and are always happy to make return visits.
In September we welcome husband and wife team of Dennis and Penny Simons. Dennis was a founder member of the Alberni Quartet and a recent conductor of the West Mendip Orchestra. Emily Heathcote grew up in North Somerset and is now making an international career as a clarinettist. We shall enjoy more music for wind instruments in November with a return visit by the Rockhampton Quintet and in December Miscellany will present choral music for the season with pianist Richard Lennox and we shall offer you some seasonal refreshment.
We can look forward to the New Year with some more local girls who form the Ystävää Piano Trio and they are preparing a lovely programme of trios. We are fortunate to have engaged Bela Hartmann, a winner of national and international piano competitions, for our February slot. Our resident quartet, the Dorians, return in March, when they will play some repertoire by those masters of quartet writing, Mozart and Brahms. After our Annual General Meeting we shall be entertained by two sopranos, star students of Charlotte Newstead, who will sing together in duets and solos.
To ensure the Club's viability we warmly welcome subscriptions to attend all eight concerts (September - April) for just £52, or half the season (September - December or January - April) for £28. Admission to individual concerts will be £9 on the door. Everyone is very welcome, and a few more members and visitors would ensure the future of this great organisation and allow the Club to continue to engage high calibre musicians.
